Life can come at you fast, whether you’re ready or not. New opportunities, challenges, and obstacles will always teach us and make us into our future selves. And we get to choose what that future looks like. Don’t let fear make you feel like you’re not ready
I’ve been seeing a disturbing amount of fat-hate in this community lately, and I don’t mean directed at it, I mean coming from inside. People with accounts, user names, on FA forums and sites spouting criticisms about people getting too big/not being big enough, concern-trolling about health, and using hateful language as part of one-sided roleplay. Sometimes this comes out because they feel like the fat person in question hasn’t served them the respect or attention they feel entitled to; sometimes it just comes out of nowhere, the very first interaction is cruel.
You people have got to get yourselves straight, here. You don’t get to roll into some fat person’s inbox or notes or comments and give them shit, nothing gives you the right. If you wanna jack off to fat bodies and then turn around and shit all over the real people who live in them, you aren’t as bad as the rest of society, you’re worse. You wanna come in to a space or community dedicated to celebrating and yes, often monetizing bodies that have been declared worthless everywhere else, only to start dumping traumatizing health-scare bullshit everywhere? You’re trash. You find people who have been told they’re too much their whole lives, who have decided the thing they want to do is share themselves with others in spite of all they’ve been told, and you demand they give you more? or you steal the pictures and videos they share and spread em around outside of this space? You deserve nothing.
The article up there is all about how fat people get treated by society at large, but I am saying that here in whatever you want to call this community, we’re doing a ton of the same toxic shit and it sucks. I keep seeing person after person get fed up and leave this place, all for preventable reasons; because someone saw their body and didn’t see a person. Out there, fat bodies get treated like a disease; in here, they get treated like meat.
I draw fucking fetish cartoons for fuck’s sake, and I think I treat my fictional characters with more damn respect than some of you treat real life people. You can have a fetish for fat or weight gain or whatever, you can appreciate someone for just their body, but you don’t get to take that body and use it against them. You’re replicating the toxic, life-ruining structures that have made it considered abnormal to like fat bodies in the first place (not that normal means anything or is worth anything).
I’m old, I’ve hung around here, wherever “here” is, for a long ass time, and I am trying to become better as a person. I am trying to get what I need from this scene and give back where I can without hurting anybody. I cannot believe how this community burns out the people who give the most to it. So I don’t know. Read that article, maybe. Think about how fucked up and cruel the world is to fat people, how much it lies to them about themselves, and then think about whether you’re bringing that kind of negativity here, where people are being generous and sharing themselves with you. With you! The least you can do is quit shitting in the pool. But I’m asking you to be kind.
